The best crypto projects to watch out for in 2022

Last year was yet another rollercoaster for the world of crypto but what are the best crypto projects to watch out for in 2022?

2021 was a year when BTC hit an eyewatering USD$69k and we saw all-time highs of so many other coins and tokens.  The market tickled US$3trillion and there are more investors than ever before.

Most crucially, loads of the crypto projects that started in 2017 came to life.  Rebutting those who say there’s no value in crypto.

If you’re still new to crypto or simply don’t have the time to keep up with what’s going on, we’ve got you.  Here’s our pick for 2022.

HNTHelium Network (HNT)

Started: 2013

Noteworthy because: Helium Network is the world’s largest contiguous wireless network, with over 341,000 Hotspots in over 27,400 cities and 149 countries.  This a decentralised wireless network is truly global. Take a look at their coverage map: https://explorer.helium.com/

Current price: USD$36.89

Circulating supply: 105,110,155

Max supply: 233,000,000

Website: https://www.helium.com/

Source code: https://github.com/helium/

Why you should care:

Helium Network is a self-professed People’s Network that delivers secure, long range, and affordable wireless.  Helium allows you to connect devices and collect data at a fraction the cost of cellular without needing to deploy and maintain wireless infrastructure.  Think low cost IoT.

Helium boasts massive coverage with the largest, public LoRaWAN network in the US, Europe and beyond.  Optimised devices running on Helium LongFi can communicate 200x further than Wi-Fi. Connectivity costs are a fraction of those associated with cellular without the restrictions.

What’s in store for 2022 and beyond:  Expect phenomenal growth.  Adoption rates are insane.  Their only challenge is keeping up with demand.  There are 19 approved vendors for miners and every single one of them have a massive waiting list.

DAGConstellation Network (DAG)

Started: 2017

Noteworthy because: it is distributed infrastructure that provides cybersecurity for big data.

Current price: USD$0.18

Circulating supply: 1,270,000,000

Max supply: 3,693,588,685

Website: https://www.constellationnetwork.io/

Source code: https://github.com/Constellation-Labs/constellation

Why you should care:

Their business partners include the US Air Force, AWS and Splunk.  If that’s not reason enough to care then perhaps that it’s a framework that lets anyone build a business on the blockchain.  Yep, anyone.  Their motivation is simple.  Existing blockchain isn’t fast enough, is too expensive and doesn’t scale well.  Constellation solves all these problems.

Constellation is it’s own network, separate from the likes of Bitcoin and Ethereum.  Yet its different to these in that it also sits beneath these networks and enables transactions to occur between different blockchains.

What’s in store for 2022 and beyond: MainNet 2.0 launches in Q2 of 2022!  Once that happens the world of blockchain will be changed forever.

MANA Decentraland (MANA)

Started: 2017

Noteworthy because: Virtual worlds and Metaverses are on the rise and Decentraland is ahead of the pack.

Current price: USD$3.20

Circulating supply: 1,820,000,000

Max supply: 2,193,910,427

Website: https://decentraland.org/

ERC-20 Contract: https://etherscan.io/token/0x0f5d2fb29fb7d3cfee444a200298f468908cc942

Why you should care:

Decentraland is the first truly 3D virtual world built on blockchain  You can explore the world and visit mind-blowing creations by users.  You can even buy a plot of land in Decentraland and make it your own by creating your own scenes, artwork, events and even challenges.  In fact, LAND in Decentraland was in high demand in 2021 with some plots selling for well over USD$1,000,000.

NFTs are all the talk and Decentraland is smack bang in the centre of it.  Everything you own in Decentraland is technically an NFT and tradeable.

Events are a major part of Decentraland with thousands of people attending.  They even co-hosted the New Years eve party in Time Square!

What’s in store for 2022 and beyond: Put simply, Metaverses will go ballistic

AAVEAave protocol (AAVE)

Started: 2017

Noteworthy because: anyone can borrow, lend or save on this platform and there’s not a bank in sight

Current price: USD$269.53

Coins minted: 13,465,045

Max supply: 16,000,000

Website: https://aave.com/

ERC-20 Contract: https://etherscan.io/token/0x7Fc66500c84A76Ad7e9c93437bFc5Ac33E2DDaE9

Why you should care:

DeFi is the quintessential essence of cryptocurrency and AAVE have created possibly one of the best platforms on the market to date.  Aave is an open source and non-custodial liquidity protocol for earning interest on deposits and borrowing assets. Aave is a glimpse of the future of finance because it provides a trustless network of finance that utilises smart contracts to execute loans and other finance products. In layman’s terms, people with crypto can deposit their funds into Aave and get a yield. On the flip side, people can take out a loan to borrow these funds pay the ‘savers’ interest. It’s truly peer-to-peer, fully anonymous and so very easy to use.

What’s in store for 2022 and beyond: Word on the street is they are launching a new mobile wallet. Plus they will continue to include more markets and simply get bigger and bigger.

MATICPolygon (MATIC)

Started: 2017

Noteworthy because: it’s ‘Ethereum’s internet of blockchains’

Current price: USD$2.42

Circulating supply: 7,160,000,000

Max supply: 10,000,000,000

Website: https://polygon.technology/

ERC-20 Contract: https://etherscan.io/token/0x7D1AfA7B718fb893dB30A3aBc0Cfc608AaCfeBB0

Why you should care:

The Ethereum ecosystem has grown phenomenally, however that growth has brought with it problems, most notably the very high gas fees. Polygon is a protocol and a network that connects ERC-20 compatible blockchains together in a much faster and a much, much cheaper way. It basically connects everything without having the need to go through ETH. Pretty cool, eh? It gets better. Everything they have built is As A Service, making it easy to extend, modify and change components. Everything is highly customisable and their go to market times are frighteningly short. So much so, they have been a big influence in the rise of NFTs.

What’s in store for 2022 and beyond: Some massive players jumped on Polygon last year and their success has caused a few ripples. Expect plenty more crypto projects to launch on Polygon in 2022.
